Questions & Answers about Nautilus

Question #1: Las Vegas, Downtown, Gym - FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE!?
First, do not answer with, "Check the website of the hotels in the area" or "I think there might be a chain gym somewhere near downtown." I am looking for someone who can give me an ANSWER BASED ON FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE! Vacationing in Vegas later this month. Staying downtown, but our hotel has no gym. Is there a good gym in or very near downtown, that offers a workout at decent day rate? Note: Want a real gym - with full weights, nautilus or similar machines, some aerobic.

Answer: I had the same dilema on my last Las Vegas trip. I think the Golden Nugget is the only downtown hotel that has a gym, and of course, it's only for registered guests. I did find that Gold's Gym has a one day pass for $15, or one week for $35. Just walk in and pay your money. The nearest one to downtown is at 3750 E. Flamingo. It's not too far, but far enough off the beaten path that you'll need a car or taxi. From downtown, take the 95 to the 515 south, get off at Flamingo and go west to Sandhill, it will be in the shopping center on the right, past Sandhill. You can also take Fremont Street until it turns into Boulder Highway, turn right on Flamingo. That way, you can hit up the casinos on Boulder Highway on the way. Just make it the way back, or you'll never make it to the gym. :-)

Question #2: Las Vegas, Downtown, Real Gym?
Vacationing in Vegas later this month. Staying downtown, but our hotel has no gym. Is there a good gym in or very near downtown, that offers a workout at decent day rate? Note: Want a real gym - with full weights, nautilus type machines. The reason to ask here is to hear from someone WHO KNOWS FROM FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE.

Answer: No I don't know of one but I have been to the Gold's Gym,which has decent weights. We even got to see a few Olympia competitorswell first hand experience, since I go every year, would tell me NO! there are no good gyms downtown. You will have to go off the strip to find a decent gym. Take the next guys list and go to one of them!!!!

Question #3: Which is better Yoga or Tai Chi or Step Aerobics?
Which is better Yoga or Tai Chi or Step Aerobics for strength and muscle developement or just to keep you in really good shape in other words. I have tried Tai Chi before but never Yoga or Step Aerobics. I do mostly cardio work outs at the gym and Nautilus but I would like to learn a technique like Tai Chi or Yoga or Step Aerobics that will also keep me in good shape and condition.

Answer: You will receive totally different benefits from each one. Both the Tai Chi and yoga will also help you control your stress levels which in turn can help you keep belly fat away.Step will burn the most calories but the control that you learn with Tai Chi will help with strength. If you are already using the nautilus and cardio you won't really need the step aerobics, so your choice is between Tai Chi and yoga. With your current program it sounds like Tai Chi would be the best but it really depends on what YOU think you would like to learn. I know many people who have tried Tai Chi and it was just too slow for them. But if you want more mind focus Tai Chi would be your choice.

Question #6: Anyone recommend the best gym in scottsdale/tempe area?
We are moving there next week, and are looking for the best gym to join. We are not Lifetime Fitness people, it is too expensive, and has things we don't use or need (hot tubs, pools, saunas, etc. Just great weight equipment and lots of cardio machines needed. Any suggestions for a reasonable membership cost for a couple? We would probably buy a membership for a 6 month or year in advance. Thanks!P.S. We really like Hammer Strength, Nautilus, Body Master, and Flex equipment.

Answer: Try Golds Gym.

Question #7: To Westchester County,NY residents who work out: which gym would you recommend joining? Price is?
definitely a deciding factor in helping determine which one I'd end up signing up with, due to finances (if only I was rich..). I'm ruling out NYSC because a buddy of mine who's a member, told me that he pays about $80 a month. I'd appreciate your input - the minimal I require from a prospective gym are free weights, treadmills and Nautilus like machines. A plus would be that the gym is public transportation accesible.

Answer: ALL gyms have what you're looking for, go for the cheapest one and/or the one closest to your place. Remember that gas and time are money :)

Question #8: working out and dieting like crazy and not losing any weight?
I have belonged to a gym for about 3 weeks now and I am only gaining weight (and not muscle...because pants that used to fit me are now too tight) I have been dieting...about 1000 calories/ dayI am 5'3" about 140 and i do 33 minutes on the elliptical a day, followed by 20 minutes on the stationary bike and then i do nautilus weights for about 30 minutes....somehow, i am only getting bigger!I am on Kariva birth control, Effexor and Xanaxis there any reason why i am putting in all of this effort and getting results in the opposite direction??I'm beginning to get extremely upset and frustrated

Answer: You're not eating enough. Take in about 1,700 calories with a 50-30-20 Protein-Carb-Fat ratio. Once your body adjusts (and you may gain for a short time while it adjusts) you'll start dropping weight again. Right now you're starving your body, even if you don't feel hungry. I hope this helps.

Question #9: I need help losing weight!!!?
I have been going to the gym for the past month 5 days a week for about 80 minutes each time (30 min. on the cross trainer, 15 min. on the treadmill at full incline, 15 min. on the bike & 20 min. lifting using various nautilus machines) I thought this would eventually work but I haven't really been showing much progress since I first started working out. I eat everything I am supposed to with a restricted 1200 calorie/day diet and I'm just trying to figure out the problem because I have been consistent for so long but have only lost about 2 or 3 pounds. If anybody could help me figure out what my problem is that would be great! Thanks.

Answer: There is absolutely no problem with what is "taking so long". You aren't taking so long at all! You have lost 2-3 pounds in 5 days. Most people have to lose 1-2 pounds by a full week (7 days). You should be fortunate you are losing this much weight so fastly! Good for you! And keep up the good work. Hope I helped. =)

Question #10: Is my 11 year old too young to start lifting light weights with Nautilus?
At school we talked to a gym teacher at open house and he said that 11 is too young to start. He has a gym class that taught them weight lifting, including free weights. I took him to the YMCA and they show him how to use a few of the Nautilus machines, ones that he was tall enough to use, and he also learned the cardio equipment. Is he too young to lift? Are sets of 12 at a very low weight ok for him to start doing at this age?

Answer: 11 is a little young to be serious about weight training but if he does it on occasion there will be no problems as long as his form is correct. the only bad exercise is the one that is performed incorrectly. that being the case a child that is athletic and highly coordinated shouldn't have any problems with some Nautilus training. at 11 his body isn't producing much test so training heavy for the young is physiologically impossible for mostI joined my first gym at 13 and so did most of my buddies
