Question: How many calories do I burn lifting light weights for 30mins?

Question Description:
I need to drop serious poundage, started in June and lost like 8pounds, using the Precor Elliptical Machine at La Fitness and I notice that I burn about 200 calories in 30 mins I do that twice a day plus lift weights, dont wanna build too much muscle right now So I am lifting lights weights like for Biceps I do max 45# plate like 3 sets @ 12 reps.

Answer#1: 105 calories in 30 minutes according to this website.

Answer#2: Calculating calorie burn for weight lifting is not an easy thing. It all depends on intensity. Lifting slower and using more weight will not burn the same as using less weight, more reps and lifting at a brisk pace.Don't worry about adding too much muscle mass at this point, unless you eat for a mass gain, your muscles will not grow that much. Adding muscle mass takes an intense protein diet and workout plan. If you don't take in enough protein, your muscles can't grow enough. If you really want to lose fat, don't worry about weight so much as body fat percentage. Have your gym measure your body fat percentage. Working out will exchange fat for muscle and muscle tissue weighs more than fat. So, weight is not the key thing to watch.I would recommend using interval cardio on the elliptical machine. Do it as hard as you can (sprint) for 30 seconds to a minute, then use a steady pace for like 2 - 3 minutes, then repeat the hard (sprint) 30 seconds to a minute part again and so on. Your body will adjust to your diet and cardio over time. Doing the same cardio and same diet for long periods of time will eventually stop yielding the same results. I ride a BMX racing bike on our local bike path. I have my iPod on and I stand up and pedal as hard as I can for half a song, then sit and pedal for 1.5 song. I repeat this cycle for the duration of my ride. I usually ride for about an hour, or 15 miles, whichever comes first. When I am done I can barely walk, but it has helped me keep my body fat percentage low.

Answer#3: 500
