Questions & Answers about Precor

Question #1: How accurate are the calorie counters on treadmills and cardio equipment?
Any ideas on how accurate the counters are on treadmills and other cardio equipment at the gym? My gym uses Precor equipment and I always wonder how close the display is to the actual calories I'm burning. Obviously it's probably a little closer if you put in your age and weight, but what about basic muscle mass and body composition?

Answer: They are totally just a toy added feature with no accuracy. They assume everyone burns energy at the same rate which isn't right. It comes down to your own individual bodies chemical composition and reactions. Do your exercise everyday and use digital scales to keep an approximate record. And obviously eat a balanced diet.

Question #2: Accuracy of Precor Elliptical Heart Rate Monitor?
How accurate do you think the heart rate monitors are on Precor ellipticals in gyms? I work out on the ones with the sensors on the handle bars and the "ski arms." I want to work out in my target zone, as I think I've been "over doing it" alot. Do you think these sensors are as accurate as a chest-belt version HRM?

Answer: They both are pretty accurate, we use the handles, as the chest belts would have to be purchased seperately. The handles work fine.

Question #4: precor equipment: for weightloss shoule my hear rate be in the weight loss or the cardio zone?
I know that sounds like a silly question but when i use the cross trainer my hear rate is normally in the cardio zone and i find it really difficult to keep it in the weight loss zone, it seems to easy to be losing weight? I have been exercising 3-4 times a week for over a month and have not noticed any changes in my weight :( i wondered if it was because my heart rate is always in the cardio zone? I do cardio vascular work as well and using weights and stretches. xxxon the precor machines it measures your heart rate and tells you what zone it is in. Cardio is above weightloss. Ive tried to work out going by my target heart rate but i can never get up to the right heart rate because its so high. ive also read that for weight loss you need to do low intensity so your hear rate is kept relatively low but this is contradicted by my targer rate?? im confussed lol xx

Answer: ok by cardio zone do u mean target heart rate ? because thats wat u should aim for, look it up itll tell u wat urs is

Question #6: How does my elliptical count calories?
I have a Precor elliptical with a stationary handlebar as well as moving handles. I would assume that I burn more calories using the moving handles than I would if I used the stationary handlebar. The elliptical is all computerized so does it recognize when I am using the moving handles instead of the stationary handlebar?

Answer: Yes, I think so. The calorie count is basically an educated guess. It is useful to see if you can burn more than last week, but not a guarenteed amount. If you eat a 200 calorie candy bar and then burn 200 on your trainer . . . well, it just may not work out the way it sounds! You might still gain weight!Live well and do good

Question #8: What does the latin term "precor impetro" mean?
I was just curious if anybody knew what this meant. I know what each of the words translate to, but I'm not sure if there was some saying because the two words meanings together (pray and obtain/get) don't make much sense to me.

Answer: It does not seem to make sense. Both words are verbs, first person, singular, indicative. A literal translation is 'I beg/pray I obtain/get/procure.'One possiblity is that someone entered something like 'I pray I get (something)' in one ot the online translators and it spit out 'Precor impetro' as the first part. Those translators don't know subjunctive from a preposition and would not have recognized this should be: Precor ut impetrem (something). That's just a wild guess.
