Question: Could someone in a wheelchair benefit from taking Creatine(muscle builder) ??

Question Description:
I am in a wheelchair, from a spinal cord injury. I couldn't feel much in the beginning, and know 10 months later I can walk with assistance. However, most of the day I am wheelchair bound, with the exception of my physical therapy. Could it hurt me in anyway to take muscle builder?

Answer#1: Yes, it could...it has been associated with undesireable cardiac effects. Creatine will not help you build muscle because your loss of muscle tone is related to your spinal cord injury. Creatine does not affect the central nervous system. It would be analogous to trying to fix the television set when the problem is that there is no electricity going to the house. ...but it's good to hear you are making such a great recovery...keep it up!
