Question: Whey Protein VS. Soy protein?

Question Description:
I want to get stronger/buff, well, build lean muscle masswhat kind of protein shake should i drink after i work out? also should i drink the days i dont work out (i work out every other day so if i worked out monday, can i drink on tues?)Also, is it true Soy protein is for women only? Will i grow man boobs? I've been drinkin soy protein for few months but hasnt done muchSo, whey or soy for me? Thanks!! PS Im a guy

Answer#1: if you're a male do not go with the soy protein!!!go see your doctor and get tested for gluten allergies (some people don't know), before you go with the whey protein. Also the whey will be harder on your tummy to digest either way, so to ease this make sure you eat plenty of fiber. Please try to find another source of protein, try not to rely on meat and dairy either. There are plenty of other plant sources out there that have plenty of protein. You should only eat soy once a week, not everyday. Same as meat, once a week (or in tiny portions throughout the week). Same with fish.

Answer#2: No soy protein, it's just not a great protein that body can easily digest. The two good types of protein are casein and whey protein. Casein is a slower digesting protein, ideal for consumption when you haven't just worked out. Whey protein is best for right after a workout, although the best postworkout supplement will also contain a lot of simple sugars. I use Surge Recovery drink from www.t-nation.com. It also includes additional branch chain amino acids. Also, a protein shake of any sort will do very little for you if you don't consume enough calories to support muscle growth. It's not all about the protein, it's also about the calories. No amount of working out in the gym will get you to your goals until your practice the proper eating habits. Read the articles on t-nation, search for nutrition information. That site is amazing and packed with the best info I've come upon to date. Not all proteins are created equal! Your body digests some more rapidly and more effectively than others.

Answer#3: Well, protein is protein whether it comes from meat, milk, or soy. A soy protein is just a vegetarian alternative for those that don't want to have an animal source. As such, it can help men just as much as women. Most people think of the lecithin being for women, but it isn't in soy protein, it's in the soy fat.... and lecithin helps men as much as women. No, soy won't make you grow breasts.... only estrogen can do that. Yes, there are some plant hormones in soy, but not in the proteins. Soy has protein, fat (phospholipids, for example), plant hormones, and soy germ.... all do different things for different people, but each is separate in it's own right. In addition to that, there is a LOT of debate about the benefits and deficits of soy in the general supplement community. You'll hear a lot of people say that soy is awful and will kill you, while some say it's the best thing since vitamin C. There is no conclusive research about how good/bad it is for you long term, but a lot of our customers get a lot of benefits from SOME parts of soy for cholesterol health, brain function, hormonal health, and a vegetarian protein source.
