Question: Will strength training get the weight off me?

Question Description:
I do 30 minutes of cardio on the treadmill and thought maybe strength training could help burn some calories. Or should I just keep using the treadmill only?(I'm watching my diet too) Appreciate the help!

Answer#1: it will actually make you gain weight because muscle weighs more than fat...so if you are looking to losing weight then stick to cardio, but if you also want to get stronger you can also lift weights with luight weight but many reps...

Answer#2: In a word, yes, weight training will help you reduce your body fat, which is ultimately what I imagine you are referring to as opposed to weight. While it is true that you burn some good calories while your running and doing cardio, and even during a strength training routine. The added benefit you get from strength training is it builds muscle, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn while at rest as it increases your metabolic rate. The average 150lb woman burns somewhere on the order of 1650 calories per day just surviving, compare that with the approximately 200 you burn for 30 minutes on the treadmill. If you can alter your muscle mass you can increase that 1650 upwards of 2000, that is much more affective and requires less effort then the extra hour you would need to run on the treadmill to make that up.

Answer#3: Muscle weighs more than fat- which sounds terrible but.. the muscle will add more resistance and help you burn calories faster.

Answer#4: Weight training is EXCELLENT is helping to lose weight. Specially if you are already doing cardio, its benefits are huge. When you increase your muscle size, even if only by a tiny bit, you are increasing the amount of energy that your body uses when you are not even exercising. That means, you are burning more calories than normal, when you are just sitting there watching TV.Great idea.

Answer#5: first off muscle weighs more than fat. so if you start working out, you'll most likely gain weight, but you'll be replacing the fat with muscle. also strength training would be a very good addition to running. weight training alone helps a persons metabolism increase, and thereby will help you burn more calories when you run on a treadmill. weight training will also increase your stamina and endurance while running. stronger arms and legs will make it easier for you to run and also breath.

Answer#6: well..muscle weighs more than fat so...if you want less body fat and a more curvy body..then yeah go and strength train. but if you want to lose weight, just continue the treadmill
