Question: Using dumbells with my eliptical machine.. I have ?'s...?

Question Description:
I would like to lose about 25 lbs in 2 months. I would like to use my eliptical machine for about 45 mins, at least, 3 x a week. I have 20 lbs dumbells I just bought. How many reps, x per week should I do? I don't really want to build muscle just lose weight. I know the more muscle you have the more weight you burn.. Any suggestions? :-)

Answer#1: 3 sets of reps for each muscle group on your arms. (biceps triceps and shoulders). I however would not use such a large weight. I would drop it to 5 lbs and increase my reps. ie 20 bicep curls in the first set, then 15 in the 2nd set then 10 in the third. Do the same for your triceps and your shoulders.( this will tone your muscles more than build them) If you arent used to working out with weights you may have to lower the numbers in each of your sets and then increase them as the exercise becomes more routine. You should work out your arms every other day to alllow your mucles to rest. As for losing the 25 lbs you will want to change your eating habits as well. lower you calorie intake, increase your lean protein, lower simple carbs, cut out or decrease the sugar in your diet. You might find later that the eliptical isnt enough for you and have to change your cardio routine. Switch it to spin class or jogging or something else you like.Good Luck!

Answer#2: 10 -15 reps 2x a week no more
