Question: Treadmill vs Exercise Bike?

Question Description:
I can walk / jog on treadmill for 60 minutes and the calories spent are 360 but when I ride on the bike for 60mins it displays double that amount?? But I have heard numerous times that a treadmill is better, can someone try and explain this to me?

Answer#1: I will answer off of experience. I was 230 pounds 5 months ago because I just had a baby. I am now 160 pounds. Trust me, i have tried just about everything you can think of. I realized that I tone better running 20-30 minutes on the treadmill rather than doing an hour on any other cardio machine. My stomach use to hang over and looked disgusting. now, it is as hard as a rock. I know you are thinking, "Well that was baby fat and that would have went away anyway." No. I know the difference between baby fat and stubborn fat which, that is another subject. Anyway I also combined my exercise program with the At kins diet and weight training. I have realized that when I use to do an hour on the other cardio machines I was burning muscle and i was just looking flabby. But when I run on the treadmill and lift weights I am lean and toned. I am still losing weight. I am so confident that in the next two weeks, I know that I will be smaller and more tone.

Answer#2: For cardio, they are both equally as effective. The bike will tighten you legs more due to the added resistance put on them however you may get a better cardio respiratory workout via the treadmill. What I do is jump on the bike for 15 minutes then the treadmill for 30 and finish with the stair master. Just mix it up because cardio should be fun to maintain consistency.PS the reading on those machines are based on averages. They are not specific to you as an individuel but are very close as long as you enter your statistics.I wear a heart rate monitor when doing cardio to get an acurate HR.

Answer#3: i've been told that you can't trust anything on the display window of an exercise machine except for the time--i don't think the calorie counters are accurate
